FAQ

What guests ask NOREN.

What is NOREN?

A messaging app that lets you talk to your inn in your own language, right in your phone's browser — translated both ways. It's not a booking site; you book your stay as you always would. NOREN is just how you and the inn talk.

Is NOREN free?

Yes, completely free for guests. No account, no payment, no hidden fees.

How do I start?

Scan the QR at your inn and enter the code on the stand. Tell us your name, email, and stay dates — no account needed. We'll email you a quick code to confirm it's you, and then you're chatting with the inn. We'll also send a link so you can return anytime.

Will my information be safe?

We only use your name, email, and stay dates — to connect you with your inn and let you know when they reply. Nothing more, and never for ads.

Is this AI?

Yes. NOREN uses AI translation to carry your words both ways, in your own language. For anything about your safety — like allergies — please confirm in person with the inn, rather than by message alone.

Why is NOREN free?

NOREN runs lean on AI at little cost, so we can offer it free. More than that, we believe the real Japan lives in its countryside inns — and everyone should reach it without a language barrier. To know more, visit our Mission page.

日本の地方と、世界をつなぐ。

Connecting deep Japan with the world.
Few places on earth offer this much history, nature, and stillness in a single country. More and more travelers now seek the real experiences found only in rural Japan — where the intention to return ranks among the highest in the world. (Dentsu Japan Brand Survey 2025)
Yet rural Japan is quietly fading. As people grow fewer, the landscapes and ways of life found only here risk being lost — just as the world longs for them most. How do we carry this beauty into the future?
But the barriers of language and custom run deeper than they seem. A small courtesy — like not letting your towel touch the bath — cannot be honored if it is never understood. For hosts and guests alike, so much is unfamiliar. The welcome is wanted, yet hard to give.
NOREN carries more than words. It gently conveys the customs and care of each place. And once they understand, those who travel farthest are often the ones who most wish to honor it. Inns stay exactly as they are. Travelers enter with respect — and go deeper.
The inn and its region are always the ones that matter. From here on, a place can face the world in its own words. An inn welcomes its travelers; a region rises to say, "This is what we want to share" — and each of these, in turn, becomes the strength of the region itself. NOREN supports that from one step behind. To welcome rightly, to create value rightly, so that its fruits become the strength for a region to endure — that is the future we believe in.
When language flows, travelers go deeper — into the food, the craft, the people of a place. Not just the inn, but the whole region receives what travel brings. That is the circulation NOREN hopes to create.
